Pound Lane School - Post WW2

4 September 1946 - "Large branch blown from elm tree in the playground the previous evening. Complaints from parents concerning the danger from these trees which have to be felled" [GSLB] Tree felling continued intermittently during the rest of the term and a report for 8 January 1947 reports that all the rest of the trees were felled in the Christmas holiday.

National events must have made some impact on the schools, such as the Festival of Britain in 1951, the death of George VII in 1952 and the Queen's Coronation in 1953, even if only that extra holidays were given.

We have no further information from the Schools log books but some former pupils have provided us with photographs and their recollections of life at the Pound Lane Schools. If you have something that you can add to this series of articles do let us know. Meanwhile you might like to read extracts from the School Inspectors reports and personal memories.
