Changing Web page fonts and background colors

The website has been designed for full screen viewing on monitors with a minimum screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels and medium text size. We have used dark coloured text on a white background to assist users with limited or low vision. Most web browsers, such as Internet Explorer and Netscape, let you override settings including the following: type face/font, font colour, font sizes, and background colour.

The following instructions will enable you to change settings in Internet Explorer. Do experiment to find the best colour scheme for you. (Please refer to the online help for the instructions needed for your particular browser.)

To change web page colours
  • On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
  • On the General tab, click Colours.
  • Change the settings as required.

To change the font
  • On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
  • On the General tab, click Fonts.
  • In the Web page font and Plain text font lists, click the fonts you want.

To change the font size
  • On the View menu in Internet Explorer, point to Text Size, and then click the size you want.

To specify fonts and colours to always use for Web pages
  • On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
  • On the General tab, click Accessibility.
  • Change the settings as needed.

In Internet Explorer, to use an access key, press and hold down the [Alt] key and at the same time the press the access key e.g. by pressing [Alt] + [4] together will take you to the search page. You may also need to press the [Enter] key in some software versions.


In Mozilla Firefox press and hold down both the [Shift], and the [Alt] key and at the same time the press the access key e.g. by pressing [Shift] + [Alt] + [3] together will take you to the sitemap page.

Some web browsers use the [Ctrl] or [Cmd] keys instead of the [Alt] key. Some web browsers do not support access keys.



Navigating with your Keyboard

Here are some useful key and key combinations that will help you to navigate this site:
[Tab] moves you forward through the different page elements.
[Shift] + [Tab] moves you back through the different page elements.
[Backspace] moves you back through the pages you have already visited.
[Alt] + [left arrow/cursor] moves you back through the pages you have already visited.
[Alt] + [right arrow/cursor] moves you forward through pages you have already visited.
[Ctrl] + [Home] takes you to the beginning of the page.
[Ctrl] + [End] takes you to the end of the page.
[spacebar] moves the page down.
[Page up] and [Page down] moves the page up and down.
